Well Bottom Blues

Oh my God it's full of stars!

Worry Worn

A poem inspired by a prompt on the Poetry Threads section
of META’s social chat app to write about something worn
smooth over time

St. Joseph’s foot, the top worn down by centuries
of men struggling with fatherhood, with marriage —
I imagine my grandfather, a devotee of St Jude
whose shrine Our Lady of Guadalupe houses,
right hand on that idealized father and husband’s
left foot, praying for the son who would never come
to his house of daughters and elderly spinster sisters
